Million dollar gift for new building at Mystic Seaport

MYSTIC, Conn. (WTNH)- Fans of Mystic Seaport will soon have a new exhibition building that will be filled with art and artifacts from across the globe. A one million dollar gift from the Thompson Family Foundation. The gift, which was announced earlier this month, brings the Thompson Foundation’s total gift towards the building of the 14-thousand square foot exhibition center up to six-point six million dollars.

When it”s completed, the five thousand square foot exhibit hall will be the largest of Mystic’s seven galleries. Museum officials say it will provide the conditions needed to both curate exhibits from the museum’s collection and make it possibly for Mystic to borrow art works and artifacts from other museums around the world.

The Thompson Foundation honors the late Wade Thompson, who was a trustee of the Mystic Seaport for more than a quarter of a century Ground was broken on the new exhibition center on January 8th.
