TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Torrington police raided a multi-family home at 30 Smith St. Wednesday night and found the illegal trifecta: illegal guns, drugs, and a lot of cash possibly made by selling the first two.
They found a lot of all three, and put it out on a table in police headquarters for the media to see.
There were 14 firearms all told, many of them automatic weapons with large capacity magazines that are now illegal in Connecticut. There was more than two thousand dollars in cash, and there was cocaine as well, baggies of crack and powdered cocaine. Police say this raid was done as part of an investigation into Torrington’s crack trade that’s been going on for a while and will continue.
“This an ongoing investigation,” said Lt. Bart Barown, head of the Torrington Police Detective Bureau. “We have to look into the guns in terms of registration and if they were legally owned and there’s still a lengthy investigation into the narcotics end of it also.”
During the raid, police arrested 37 year old Daniel Augusto. He is now facing multiple gun and drug charges. He is well known to police, in fact he is a convicted felon out of New York State.
