HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– The mad scramble has already begun with people rushing to the grocery store and the hardware store trying to get their hands on everything they’ll need to make it through the blizzard and eventually dig out.
News 8 got a letter sent into our newsroom from the Governor’s office. He’s encouraging people to take steps now to be preared for the upcoming winter storm.
In fact on the state’s end it explains the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security is already monitoring weather conditions very closely and as we saw today they are apparently not the only ones.
News 8 spent the afternoon and evening over at Rocky’s Ace Hardware over in Wethersfield. There we saw people purchasing everything it seemed that could be used to help combat adverse weather conditions. Things like ice melt and shovels appeard to be the most popular but we also saw some folks picking up items like snow blowers and fire wood.
Veteran employees at that location say even for them there’s a sense of urgency as they help people get ready for the snow.
“It wouldn’t be as much panic as like most snow storms but I definitely say the urgency for ice is definitely in there. We sold our last four snow blowers this morning in two hours,” said Brittany Breedlove, Rocky’s Ace Hardware.
And just to give you an idea of how busy things were at some hardware stores today, over at Rocky’s they estimate today their business tripled.
