Smoke causes panic on Boston’s T

BOSTON (WTNH)– A terrifying moment for commuters in Boston, saying they were smelling burning rubber, tasting smoke, and struggling to breathe.

The panic was on a Boston subway train, the Red Line. Passengers pushed themselves through windows to escape what some of them called billowing smoke on the train.

“It was all dark inside and then somebody shouted, people started screaming and stuff, they are yelling to open the doors,” said passenger Jordan Tong.

Boston’s Transportation Authority says it was a mechanical error, insisting “there was no smoke inside the subway car, rather just a small amount of smoke on the platform. Luckily, no one was hurt. Those trains are back up and running.
