NEWINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) crews are working to repair a water main break on Main Street in Newington.

The break occurred Friday morning at 1936 Main Street. MDC officials tell News 8 this particular water main was installed in 1956.

In order to facilitate the repair, water was shutdown at 10:30 a.m. Eight houses on Main Street, from New Britain Ave to 1947 Main Street, are affected by the shutdown.

Crews estimate the repair could take up to six hours to repair. They expect the main to be repaired this afternoon. Drivers are asked to avoid that section of Main Street while the repairs are ongoing.
