West Hartford fining residents who don’t shovel their sidewalks

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — West Hartford police aren’t just looking for hard-core criminals these days. They’ll be tracking down people who are not shoveling their sidewalks.

The city is urging people to report their neighbors who aren’t clearing away the snow from in front of their property. A local ordinance requries people to remove snow withing 12 hours after a storm ends, or within 12 hours after sunrise, which ever is later.

Violators could face a $79 fine. Residents can report neighbors that didn’t shovel their sidewalks by calling 860-523-5203.
