UConn students hospitalized for illness

STORRS, Conn. (WTNH)– Three UConn students were hospitalized over the weekend after an outbreak of a flu-like illness hit the campus.

On Saturday and overnight Sunday, three University of Connecticut students were transported by ambulance to Windham Hospital for treatment after becoming ill.

UConn spokesperson Stephanie Reitz says the university has received several reports over the last few days of students with nausea, vomiting, weakness or other symptoms consistent with viruses, gastrointestinal illnesses, and/or the flu.

The students hospitalized will undergo tests to determine if they have the flu or another GI illness.

Reitz says because it is the height of a tough flu and virus season, it is not really a surprise. These illnesses can spread easily in areas were people live in close quarters, such as residence halls in college.

UConn will provide treatment at Student Health Services for students who are feeling ill.
