While much of the focus this winter has been New England where Maine and Boston area are seeing incredible snow amounts, This winter is having one of the longest stretches on record for snow depth for NYC Metro area as well…
3rd longest 6″+ snowpack for NYC in 100+yrs … and notice.. 3 of the last 5 yrs have had one of the longest stretches.
Longest stretch of 9″+ snowpack for Islip Long Island… (records since 1984 only but still, none of the other 30 winters had this long of a stretch.
2nd longest 10″+ snowpack for coastal CT
Providence 8th longest 11″+ snow depth.
For these records to happen we need 2 things… Obviously the snow but we also need the cold around to prevent any big melting from happening.
We sure have had that. Only 7 out of last 42 days have been above normal. This winter has been colder on average than last year even including the Top 10 warmest Decembers we had.
BDL: 18th coldest winter (since 1905)
BDR: 9th Coldest winter (since 1948)
For Hartford, as of yesterday 2/16/15 they had a 24″ snowpack! The most so far this year. They have not dropped below 13″ in over 2 weeks but they haven’t entered the top 10 yet.
Another amazing Winter in CT and New England.
