Ice and snow cause train derailment in North Canaan

NORTH CANAAN, Conn. (WTNH) – It looks like ice and snow on the tracks may have been the cause of a train derailment in North Canaan on Tuesday.  The Housatonic Railroad says two freight cars slipped off the tracks around 2:30 in the afternoon.  It happened near the intersection of Route 44 and Route 7. Crews say nothing was spilled out of the freight cars, and several “slipped” wheels just needed to be brought back onto the tracks.  Train officials say there have been similar wintertime problems on that same stretch of tracks in the past.  No one was hurt.
