WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — Police say a Willimantic man tried to kill himself after committing an armed robbery Tuesday morning.

Willimantic police say 37-year-old Daniel Ashford robbed the CVS Pharmacy at 1200 Main Street, taking an unknown amount of cash. They say Ashford was tracked to a home on Main Street, where he tried taking his own life with a sharp object during his arrest.

Ashford is charged with first-degree robbery, threatening, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace, and interfering with an officer. He is being held on $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court Wednesday.

Willimantic police say Ashford is also being investigated for two other armed robberies in town.

Connecticut Judicial Branch records show Ashford has been convicted of felonies in the past, and sentenced to jail time.
