NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The name of the rookie police officer the New Haven Police Department has been investigating has been obtained.
That officer is 26-year-old Najea Poindexter. Back in January, her boyfriend, 27-year-old Cameron Outlaw, was arrested after driving her car without a license. Police later found drugs on him. Outlaw has been in trouble with the law before for operating while suspended.
The New Haven Police Union’s President says Poindexter has done nothing wrong.
“She had a child with him before she became a police officer, so you know, it’s a tough decision she has to make,” said union president Lou Cavaliere. “From what I’m hearing, she’s made every attempt so far to distance herself as much as she can from him, but she has a child with him, so she’s in a tough spot.”
We’re also told Outlaw was cited by police last summer while driving officer Poindexter’s car.
Outlaw is scheduled to be in court Thursday.
