NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) — An 18-month-old baby was in the backseat of a car Wednesday morning as two men drove to different known drug locations in New London, police say.

New London police say when 31-year-old Andrew Pendexter and the unidentified driver arrived at a location known to be where illegal drugs are purchased, Pendexter went in to the residence, then got back in the car after a brief time. They say Pendexter turned over a small quantity of narcotics, recognized to be consistent with heroin, during a traffic stop. The Mystic man was then arrested.

Police say they found the 18-month-old in a car seat during the traffic stop. That child is now in DCF custody.
