Firefighter burned after rescuing unconscious man from fire

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– A firefighter and a New Haven man are being treated in the Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital after a weekend fire.

It happened on Dickerman Street Saturday night around midnight. Three firefighters went into the burning two and a half story house to rescue a man who’d had a heart attack and was unconscious. They also rescued a dog.

One of those firefighters was burned during the rescue.

Officials say a hoarding situation made the fire difficult to put out.

The fire is under investigation. No word on the victims’ names as of this morning.
