Why the inventor of K-Cups regrets his invention

(WTNH)– The man who invented the K-Cup coffee is trending after he says he regrets inventing it.

The inventor, John Sylvan, now says those single serve plastic containers are creating too much waste and are bad for the environment because they are not recyclable or biodegradable.

Sylvan says he thought the machines would be mostly used in offices. Now they are used in one in three homes. The Atlantic reports that last year K-Cups accounted for most of Keurig Green Mountain’s $4.7 billion in revenue.

The environmental factor wasn’t Sylvan’s only qualm.

“I don’t have one. They’re kind of expensive to use,” he told the Atlantic. “Plus it’s not like drip coffee is tough to make.”
