Vernon family escapes house fire; home left uninhabitable

VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) — A Vernon family cannot live in its home after a fire tore through it Saturday.

Vernon police say the Rambling Road home went up in flames around 1:45 p.m. They say the Vernon Fire Department and other area departments put out the blaze, but not before extensive damage was done to the structure, leaving it uninhabitable.

According to police, the family was home when the fire started, but made it out without injury.

The Red Cross says it is helping two adults and two children with emergency housing, food, and clothing needs.

The Vernon Fire Marshal and police detectives are working to determine the cause of the fire.
