“Tell Your Girl Scouts Story” Video Contest

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A video contest is underway in Connecticut, and if you have a child or grandchild that’s part of the organization, this is a chance for them to tell their girl scout story.

Joining us on Good Morning Connecticut Sunday morning was Mary Barneby, CEO of Girl Scouts of Connecticut. She was excited to share “Tell Your Girl Scout Story” with everyone. Barnebby says it is a joint initiative from the Girl Scouts of Connecticut and Frontier Communications.

The contest is designed to encourage young women to create short videos describing how participating in Girl Scouts has supported them in areas like leadership, technology and community.  Videos can be no longer than 5 minutes and can be as simple as shooting a video with a cell phone.

Barneby explained the details of the contest, saying that the contest will be open until Saturday, April 4.  The contest is open to any active Girl Scout in Connecticut, and participants don’t have to have Frontier services to enter.

Barneby says participants must submit their videos on a special Girl Scouts section of the Frontier Facebook page. Click on “More” and select “Girl Scout Video Challenge”.

Once a video has been uploaded, Girl Scouts are encouraged to share the link on their own personal social media channels in order to help increase public votes.

Based on public votes, 24 semi-finalists (3 from each county) will be selected.  24 semi-finalists will be narrowed down to 8 finalists (one from each county) by a committee of Frontier and Girl Scouts employees.

Barneby explains that each of the eight finalists will receive either one year of free Frontier services or a $100 Visa gift card!

The eight finalists will then have their videos on display during the annual Girl Scouts Fun Fest in Durham on May 16. People at the Fun Fest will vote for their favorite video and a winner will be announced at the end of the day.

The grand prize winner will be a very happy person! The winner will receive $500 Visa gift card, 20 complimentary tickets to the Frontier suite at the Webster Bank arena for the event of their choice, and a free dinner for their entire Girl Scout Troop.

Official rules and more information can be found at www.facebook.com/frontiercorp.
