NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — This is a story about a sweet tea cup chihuahua who survived horrific abuse against all odds. A Good Samaritan finding the 3 pound pup freezing in this cardboard box outside the Danbury Fair Mall. Meg Rhodes with the New Fairfield Sherman Animal Welfare said, “we took the blanket off of her and noticed something was wrong. Her feet, the way that she stood, her legs kinds of crooked and her tail.”
Pickles was dehydrated and extremely malnourished. She has multiple broken bones making it hard for her to stand. She has a broken tail that will never wag. Rhodes added, “I would imagine that she was dropped because her bones are so tiny.” Pickles is about 5-8 years old and scared of her own shadow.
“One of our vets mentioned that she was probably kept in a crate a lot that may be why her feet in the front are funny. she probably was very neglected,” said Rhodes. Brave little Pickles will have to undergo several surgeries. Rhodes said, “her teeth are totally rotten, most of them will probably come out, she’s going to need surgery on her front feet so that she can walk a little more comfortably, this back leg is broken in a couple different places and her back tail is broken in a couple different spots.”
Why the name Pickles? Rhodes said, “that was the first thing we thought of and we thought it was funny and figured everyone would remember the name. Pickles set her different than everybody else.” She is hard to forget. A three pound chihuahua with a big personality.
