(WTNH) — When Los Angeles activist Cassandra Fairbanks came across two photos posted on a chat site she was stunned. It wasn’t the main image that shocked her, but rather the cruel caption that followed.
The caption underneath the photos posted on the chat site 4chan read, ‘Spotted this specimen trying to dance. He stopped when he saw us laughing.’ The main photograph shows a man dancing – it’s then juxtaposed with a heartbreaking photo of him appearing hurt after being mocked by the people snapping the photos.
Fairbanks saw this and wanted to do something about it so she took to Twitter to look for the man she referred to as ‘dancing man.’ She posted the images of him on her Twitter account @CassandraRules along with the cruel comments.
“Anyone know this man or who posted this? There’s a huge group of ladies in LA who would like to something special,” she Tweeted on March 5. She used the hashtag #FindDancingMan to help locate him and included an invitation for an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles where he could dance his heart out with a group of ladies.
The man, identified as Sean from London, created his own Twitter account @Dancingmanfound and reached out to Cassandra.
“Cassandra just seen invite and would love to join you in LA for a dance off,” he Tweeted.
Many celebrities have caught wind of this and offered their support.
Pharrell Williams Tweeted, “Hey @CassandraRules keep me posted about your dance party! @Dancingmanfound, never be ashamed of yourself. You are both truly #OTHER”
Singer Ellie Goulding Tweeted, “I want to dance with #dancingman and play at the party,” while singer Moby offered to dj the party for free.
L.A.’s Coliseum has offered to host the party and more than $35,000 have been raised for the big dance party on a GoFundMe page. Any money not used for the party will be donated to an anti-bullying charity.
