Suspect charged with fatal February hit-and-run in Newington

NEWINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — An East Hartford man has been arrested for allegedly killing a woman in a Newington hit-and-run.

Newington police say 35-year-old Dennis Martinez killed 51-year-old Sonya Atkins in an accident at Willard and Robbins Avenues February 27, then fled the scene.

Martinez is charged with first-degree manslaughter, evading responsibility, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and second-degree forgery.

He is being held on $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court Wednesday.
