LARCHMONT, N.Y. (AP) — A woman is hospitalized with eye and facial injuries after she says a piece of concrete smashed through her car windshield from a highway overpass.

WABC says Mrya Flores, of Stamford, Connecticut, required 15 stitches following the Saturday incident on I-95 in Larchmont.

The 27-year-old nursing student was a passenger in the car driven by her husband.

She says it happened at the Chatsworth Avenue overpass.

It wasn’t clear why the concrete came loose.

The Thruway Authority said in a statement that the bridge was found to be structurally sound in its last bi-annual inspection. But it says the bridge “was impacted by severe winter weather like many roads and bridges across the state.”

It said it was accelerating the next scheduled inspection of the bridge.
