EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — It’s a powdered alcohol, called Palcohol, receiving the green light from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade.

On the Palcohol website, the creator demonstrates how to make a drink with just adding water. The product is freeze dried alcohol packaged in a small pouch.

Several states have moved to outlaw Palchocol, and now some Connecticut lawmakers want a bill banning the sale of it. Mothers Against Drunk Driving said this is just one of many products that can attract young people.

Program Manager with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Johanna Krebs said, “There’s new products on the shelves everyday. There are new marketing pieces everyday that sometimes attract youth. If we can keep it out of the hands of young people than we can save more lives.”

Krebs added, “In 2013 Connecticut lost 114 people in alcohol related crashes, and across the country we lost 10,076 in 2013.” Everyday specialists from M.A.D.D. Connecticut go out into the community and talk to teens and community leaders with a mission to keep the public safe.

Krebs said, “If we as parents can educate teens then when they go out and have fun with their friends they are out at a party they are out in the community doing what teens do best, have fun that they are doing it safe so they know their surrounding they know what they are doing and where they are going.”

A statement on the Palcohol website said the company hopes to have the product for sale this summer.
