Arrest made nearly 3 years to the day after 2012 New Haven homicide

NEW HAVEN, Conn (WTNH)– An arrest has been made in a 2012 New Haven homicide.

Vincent Ayala, 25, is now in custody. He’s charged with murdering of T.J. Mozell near Munson and County Streets back on March 17th, 2012. The 19-year-old was in his car when he was shot in the head.

“We don’t give up on any of our cases,” said Detective Michael Wuchek. “We take all our cases personal because somebody was taken from their family unnecessarily and no one should get away with that.”

“We have the right guy,” he said.

The family of Mozell was there for the announcement Monday. They hope police can do more to change the conditions where so many children live.

The convicted felon is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit. He’s being held on $1 million bond.
