New Haven firefighter’s death ruled accidental

Linda Cohens

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH)–The death of a New Haven Firefighter found dead on a Hamden Street in January has been ruled accidental. The Chief State Medical Examiner’s Office says an autopsy determined that Linda Cohens died from hypothermia associated with acute intoxication.

Cohens was found unresponsive outside her Hamden home around 3 a.m. Sunday January 11th.  A neighbor told police she found Cohens face down on the sidewalk unconscious with what appeared to be a head injury.  Neighbors reported hearing shouting outside around the same time that police were arriving.  Cohens was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital and pronounced dead.    The Major Crimes Division of the Hamden Police Department then began an investigation in her death.

At the time Cohen’s twin sister, Lynn Cohen, told News 8 about her sister “she would give you the shirt off her back.”
