NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH) – Two New London firefighters were injured tonight trying to put out a fire on top of a three story home at 57 Riverview Avenue. The fire department got the call at 6:18 pm. When firefighters arrived heavy smoke was coming from the roof.

The Battalion Chief tells News 8 fighting the fire was difficult because of the structure of the home, the ventilation of the roof and high winds. Two firefighters were taken to the hospital for what we’re told was minor injuries. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the top floor.

The home houses several apartments. No one living there was hurt. But those residents are out of their homes tonight as the Fire Marshall continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
