HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A Hamden man stabbed his pit bull to stop the dog from attacking him after it attacked his wife around noon Friday, police say.
According to police, the male pit bull began biting a puppy, and attacked the wife when she tried separating the dogs. They say the husband coaxed the pit bull into a back room of the Ford Street home, then the dog attacked him.
Police say the dog broke through a security gate and attacked the husband a second time. Officials say that’s when the husband got a knife and stabbed the dog to try stopping the second attack.
The husband and wife were both taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, according to officials.
Animal control officers were able to capture the pit bull.
