NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– There’s a new business in New Haven that has a lot of people weighing the good verse bad in their minds. “Porter 21” promises fast delivery of alcohol.
But the big question is how is the company going to handle the people who want to abuse the service.
This company targets people who do everything online from buying clothes to food and now liquor is on the list. Their slogan is “alcohol at you door in 60 minutes or less.”
The online company Porter 21 partners up with local liquor stores, delivering alcoholic beverages to the customer’s home within 60 minutes of placing an order. Customers have to verify their age on the website and delivery drivers have to card the customer when they make the delivery.
The Connecticut based online company started in Hartford and now caters to New Haven. The creator says it’s a convenience for time-starved young professionals.
The online business is getting mixed reviews. Some people are worried that alcohol could fall into the wrong hands of under-aged drinkers and that the delivery person can’t “police” whether the person they are delivering to is of legal age.
The big question is will the delivery person refuse to leave the order if the customer can’t produce a valid ID or if they appear to be drunk?
News 8 will be digging deeper into this alcohol delivery service.
