BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — A trail of cars lead to where a community mourns the loss of Jose Araujo, killed Thursday morning.
“He’ll be missed,” said friend John Gomes. “He was one of those guys that you felt when he was around.”
The 31-year-old was gunned down on Pond Street in Bridgeport as he was working at construction job. A makeshift memorial now stands near where it all happened.

Gomes was a long time friend of Araujo. He says the Milford man died how he lived, a hard worker who was always willing to lend a hand.
Police say 33-year-old Gregory Weathers of Bridgeport is responsible for the killing. Why he pulled the trigger still isn’t clear, but investigators say he asked the construction crew for information about a job before he opened fire.
Araujo was shot in the chest and was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Weathers faces murder and gun charges.
Family and friends of Araijo have set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs and the family’s immediate financial needs. If you’re interested in contributing, you may do so here.
