NY man pleads guilty in gambling operation

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– A New York man plead guilty in federal court for failing to file a wagering tax return Wednesday.

According to a release, 33 year old Salvatore Ferraioli of Staten Island was involved in an illegal sports gambling operation based out of Stamford.

Court documents show that Ferraioli was the bookmaker for the operation, which was run by Dean DePreta and Richard Uva.

Police say DePreta and Uva used sports gambling websites to run the operation. The operation brought in nearly $2 million in revenue from October 2010 to June 2011, according to the release.

Ferraioli is scheduled to be sentenced on June 17. He faces up to one year in prison and a $25,000 fine. He also agreed to forfeit over $160,000 and pay back taxes, interest and penalties.
