Wife shot, husband killed in Torrington shooting & fire

TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Police say Kelly Thompson was shot and her husband, 41-year-old Kevin, killed in Torrington’s shooting and fire Wednesday.

Police say Kelly called 911 to report she had been shot. Responding officers say they found the home at 497 Highland Avenue on fire. Kelly was also located and taken to Waterbury Hospital where she is in stable condition.

While on scene, officers say they heard multiple gunshots come from inside the home. They tried to make contact with Kevin, who was inside, but could not before the house became fully engulfed in flames and collapsed. Police say they later found Kevin’s body in the remains of the house with a gun near him.

The medical examiner says Kevin died from a gunshot wound to the head. The cause death has been ruled a suicide.
