UPDATE: Police say Daija Diaz has been found and is safe.
EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The family of an East Haven teen has contacted News 8 asking us to get out the word that their 16-year-old girl is missing.
Daija Diaz told her mom she was going to the Dunkin’ Donuts down the street Thursday, and would be right back. She was seen around 4:20 p.m. Thursday, exiting a silver, older model SUV with tinted windows at the Dunkin’ Donuts on East Main Street, police say. According to the Diaz family, East Haven police showed staff at the Dunkin’ Donuts a photo of Daija, but the workers said she never came in.
Police say Diaz was seen between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday, riding a black scooter in the area of Cedar Court/The Birches Complex in East Haven. Officials say she may have been spotted riding the same scooter on Quinnipiac Avenue in New Haven around 1:20 p.m. Friday.
A Silver Alert was issued for Diaz Friday morning.
