ANDERSON COUNTY, South Carolina (WTNH) – A former Marine from Connecticut was killed when he was struck by a truck in a parking lot in South Carolina.

State Police in South Carolina say 53 year old Garvin Libert of New Haven was run over by a tractor trailer in dark parking lot of a gas station store. Police say the driver told them he had been sleeping in his truck when he woke up and was driving to a gas pump and did not see Libert. The driver said when he realized he hit something he backed up running over Libert a second time. He got out of his truck and saw he struck a person.

Police say they identified Libert by his Marine tags.
