MDC Fake Water Company Employees Scam

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A warning from the Metropolitan District Commission. They say customers should be aware there’s someone out there going door to door, posing as a water company employee, trying to collect money.

The scammer first struck Friday, claiming to be from the MDC and attempting to collect money for a “bill” at a home in Hartford. The fake worker told the resident previous payments had been returned and they needed to made payment immediately or their water would be turned off.

News 8 has your back. Don’t fall for this. The MDC says they would never take a payment at someone’s doorstep. They say to be alert for impostors. Here’s some important tips. MDC field employees wear clothing and drive vehicles clearly marked with the MDC logo.

If someone comes to your door claiming to be from the water company and you do not have a previously scheduled appointment, don’t allow them in your home. If you have any doubt about the individual’s identity or motives, call police.
