Derby Police: Man arrested with machete

Police arrest suspect carrying machete on Derby Green.

DERBY, Conn. (WTNH) — Two men faced a judge today, after police say they were arrested following an argument where one brandished a gun, the other a machete.Esteban Gonzalez

Police were called to the Derby Green around 3:15p.m. on Thursday afternoon where they arrested Esteban Gonzalez, 37, for carrying a machete. Following an investigation police say Gonzalez was arguing with Lamar Copeland, 19. Police located and arrested Copeland.

Lamar CopelandPolice say the two had begun to argue when Copeland threatened that he had a gun. Officials say Gonzalez went back to his home on Minerva Street where he retrieved the machete. According to officials, Copeland was not in possession of the gun upon his arrested, but witnesses say they saw him run back to his apartment located at 43 Anson Street. Responding detectives found a .9mm gun in his home.

Both men were arrested and no one was hurt. They are both facing several charges and were held on bond to appear in Derby Court Friday.
