Groton City Council cosnsiders seceding from town

GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) — City Councilors in Groton are proposing seceding from the town.

Our partners at The Day of New London reporting that some council members want to be financially independent from the town. The city of Groton is a political subdivision of the town of Groton.

City councilors say the town councilors cut their funding for roads by nearly 50 percent. That move would force the city to lay off eight of their eleven employees who work on city roads.

Now, the Mayor of Groton City plans to go to arbitration to settle the dispute. In the meantime, the city council is now looking at legal ways to separate financially from the town.
