HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Newington woman has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for her part in a mortgage fraud conspiracy.
Malgorzata “Margaret” Karas-Golka, 46, played a part in fraudulently buying almost 50 houses in Hartford, New Haven, and Middlesex counties. She acted as a borrower, seller, landlord, and employer as part of the scheme.
Karas-Golka pleaded guilty to bank fraud. In addition to jail time, Karas-Golka will be on supervised release for 5 years and must pay $166,500 in restitution. Her accused co-conspirators are waiting to be sentenced.
