HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A former shop teacher at the Norwich Free Academy has sued the school, alleging he was fired after pointing out safety violations in the school’s woodshop.

Keegan Day of Pomfret says in his lawsuit that he received positive feedback on his teaching until he complained to school officials in September that the woodshop had no ventilation system, was missing safety guards on numerous machines, and had other problems including table saws that faced students’ seats.

The lawsuit says a safety consultant hired by the school in October also found NFA was maintaining an unsafe working environment.

Day says he was forced to sign a letter of resignation in November.

The school did not respond to phone calls seeking comment.
