University of Bridgeport starts demolition on old dorm

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — Crews began tearing down Schine Hall at the University of Bridgeport Friday to make way for a new building.

The old dorm, dating back to the 1970’s, could be seen from I-95. A new, state-of-the-art building will soon takes its place.

“We’re kind of excited because we’re going to start changing the south end. The first new residence hall that we’ve built in 40 years.”

Former students were among those there to watch the building come down. Demolition work will continue for a few weeks.

The new hall is set to open in the fall of 2016.
