Ansonia Man Sentenced to Prison after False Report to FBI

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – A 52 year old Ansonia man, Edward Minerly, was sentenced today in a Hartford courtroom to eight months in prison for making a false report to the FBI of police brutality.

Court documents show on May 18, 2013, Minerly was arrested by the Derby Police Department on an outstanding warrant for violating probation.
On May 31, 2013, Minerly called the New Haven FBI claiming Derby Police officers, taunted him, tipped him backwards out of his wheelchair and kicked him in the head, arms and upper body.

Minerly pleaded guilty on November 18, 2014, admitting that he made up the story he told the FBI about physical abuse by the Derby Police officers.

FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge Kevin James Kline said “We will seek prosecution of anyone who deliberately provides false information that diverts agents and resources from other important matters.”
