Putnam car accident causes brush fire and power outages

PUTNAM, Conn. (WTNH) — A car accident caused a brush fire and power outages in parts of Putnam and Thompson Thursday night.

According to police, a 16-year-old was traveling north on Mechanic Street around 4:00 Thursday night when the driver hit a utility pole. The crash caused wires to come down which then started a brush fire.

Power outages occurred in parts of Putnam and Thompson.

Fire departments from Putnam, East Putnam, Attawaugan, West Thompson and Woodstock, as well as utility crews responded to the scene.

The fire was put out around 8:30 Thursday night.

Utility crews were still on the scene as of 7:45 Friday morning.

The driver was taken to Day Kimball Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
