East Hartford triple slaying trial begins

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Testimony in the trial of a Manchester man charged in the slayings of his mother and two house guests in 2010 has started.

Brett Bednarz’s trial on three counts of murder, home invasion and violation of a protective order began Monday.

Police found the bodies of his mother, 74-year-old Beverly Therrien, as well as 53-year-old Michael Ramsey and 60-year-old Pamela Johns on Nov. 25, 2010 in East Hartford.

Officer Tara Hewins testified Monday she found an unlocked rear sliding door, stepped into the house and saw blood on a hallway wall. Hewins described finding the three bodies.

Police say the victims suffered massive head injuries. The murder weapon was never recovered, but police believe it was a drywall hammer.

Bednarz has pleaded not guilty.

Testimony is expected to continue Tuesday.
