Guilford’s Nick Fradiani in American Idol’s final two

GUILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — If the “Fradiani Fever” across Connecticut is any indication, Nick Fradiani will be the next American Idol, the first from the state. The show is down to the final two contestants, and the winner will be crowned Wednesday.

Along Connecticut’s shoreline, there’s no shortage of Nick. There are Nick signs, Nick pictures, and Nick fans of all ages. Six- and seven-year-olds Connor and Lily Sullivan of Guilford truly idolize who they say should be the next American Idol.

“We love him,” Lily said.

Across the Guilford Green there was the same reaction from fans who are amazed at how the community has come together to support and recognize a local guy. ‘

“People took paint sticks, ‘Nick on a Stick’ signs, there was just all sorts of enthusiasm,” said John Creaser, referring to May 1, which was declared Nick Fradiani Day. Nick was back home in Guilford that day, joined by his band “Beach Avenue” on the green for a concert.

“Cars were parked blocks away up and down the streets, but it was a good crowd,” said Creaser. “We support Nick. We’re behind him. We hope he wins.”

Fradiani fans are also taking their excitement to the frozen food aisle at Bishop’s Orchards to buy “Fradiani Frenzy,” Nick’s favorite ice cream flavor: chocolate peanut butter.

“Usually vanilla is the number one flavor. This has just like overwhelmed vanilla, so all we make is this flavor every single week. It’s a couple hundred quarts a week easily,” said Randy Perham of Bishop’s Orchards.

For every time Nick’s performed on stage the last few months, Bishop’s Orchards has been selling tons of the ice cream to people having American Idol viewing parties.

“You know, like you would get chips for a Super Bowl, it’s ice cream for Nick,” said Perham.

New Haven’s Regal Beagle on State Street was also packed with people watching Nick perform. Many of them had signs and t-shirts with “Fradiani Fever” on them. The party will continue there Wednesday night as people watch, wait, and hope for Fradiani to win it all.
