(WTNH) – Ryan Kristafer and Noelle Gardner will be racing this in the 5th annual Closer To Free Ride Bike race. The fundraiser benefits the Yale Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Center. Today, doctors from the hospitals share just how important this race is.
Patients, caregivers, family and friends all take part in the race in one form or another. It is an overwhelming environment of support and love.
The money raised goes to novel drug therapy, and a new type of treatment – cell therapy. The cell therapy is relatively rare. There are very few cancer centers that have it. However, it is being built at Smilow Cancer Center.
The goal this year is between 1.5 – 2 million dollars. The money raised will benefit research in all types of cancers.
