Connecticut manufacturers looking for skilled workers

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)- Connecticut manufacturers are struggling to find qualified, skilled workers according to a new industry survey. The Manufacturing Alliance of Connecticut (MAC) reports that although the impact of the recession has lessened in the state, the greatest challenge employers face is attracting the best workers.

Still, more than half of manufacturers in Connecticut have hired new employees in the past year. When asked about business conditions in the state, almost 70 percent of  manufacturers  responded either ‘fair’ or ‘good’, with just thirty percent  calling them ‘poor’.

A majority of manufacturers also say an increase in overhead costs is the biggest threat to future growth.
