Former Chaplin tax collector arrested for embezzlement

CHAPLIN, Conn. (WTNH) – A former tax collector for the town of Chaplin has been arrested for stealing tax money.  Lynn Sembor, 59, turned herself in to state police this morning.  Town officials say they conducted a forensic audit of tax records, and found the numbers didn’t add up.  State police say Sembor was interviewed, and confessed to taking money from tax payments that were made in cash, and then replacing that money with other tax payments as they came in.  Sembor is charged with Larceny in the First Degree.  She is due back in court on June 3rd.
