FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Fire officials in Fairfield are investigating a kitchen fire that evacuated the S&S Dugout restaurant.
It happened around 9:32p.m. Tuesday night. Officials first on the scene at 3449 Post Road, found heavy smoke inside. The restaurant is located on the first floor, the second floor is occupied by tenants living in apartments.
Fire officials say an employee at the restaurant smelled smoke inside as he was opening up the restaurant, and used an extinguisher to control the fire behind the counter.
The building was searched, evacuated and the damage was confined to the first floor of the building. The Building and Health Departments were requested to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bisson stated, ” Quick actions by the residents prevented this fire from growing too large before firefighters arrived to extinguish it and will hopefully allow the business to reopen very soon.”
Units from the Fairfield Fire Department and a truck from the Southport Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fairfield Fire Marshal’s office and appears to have originated inside a commercial dishwasher.
