WOODHAVEN, Mich. (AP) — State police say they arrested a 21-year-old driver who was clocked going more than 150 mph on a suburban Detroit freeway.

Lt. Mike Shaw tells WWJ-AM troopers spotted him about 3 a.m. Tuesday going 79 mph in a 70 mph zone on northbound Interstate 75. Shaw says troopers clocked the vehicle at 153 mph before it exited and pulled behind a business.

Shaw says the Lincoln Park man was arrested for reckless driving and his 2005 Dodge Magnum impounded. Police are seeking charges.

The station says the driver didn’t explain why he was speeding. Shaw says there’s no reason to go so fast. He says Michigan’s roads “are not designed for 150 miles an hour and most of our drivers probably aren’t professionally trained to drive at that speed.”
