NIANTIC, Conn. (WTNH) — Many are getting an early start on the Memorial Day weekend in southeastern Connecticut. Campers started rolling in to Rocky Neck State Park as early as Thursday night.
Throughout Friday, families set up their campsites to get ready for the long holiday weekend. Some have been kicking off the summer season at the Niantic campground for years.
“This is a nice relaxation weekend after school with the family,” said Plainfield resident John Lorange. “Everyone just chill out, have a good time, no thinking at all.”
What would camping be without a campfire? Many fired up the fire pits early to cook up some lunch.
