HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Fire officials in Hamden responded to the scene of a car fire early Friday morning.

It happened around 9:30a.m. Fire officials were called to a fully involved car fire in front of 2100 Dixwell Avenue. Upon their arrival, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in the northbound travel lanes.

Officials say the female driver of the 2007 Mazda CX7 was driving alone and saw smoke coming from her engine hood vents, followed quickly by flames. She was able to safely stop and get out of the car before the fire spread to the passenger compartment.

The Hamden Police Department helped out, closing down the road and sidewalk for public safety. Dixwell Avenue was reopened by the Hamden Police Department a short time later.

No one was hurt.
