Hamden couple arrested for lying to police about stabbing

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – New Haven police have arrested a boyfriend and girlfriend, after they say they lied to police about a stabbing.  On May 12th, Erick Perez, 19, called Hamden police to report that he had been stabbed in the arm during a robbery attempt.  He told them it happened in New Haven, so New Haven police took over the investigation.

New Haven police found out Perez was actually stabbed by his girlfriend, Rebecca Coomes, 18, during an argument.  Police say Perez lied to police about what happened to protect Coomes from being arrested.

Both were arrested at their home on State Street in Hamden.  Perez is charged with Threatening, Filing a False Report and Disorderly Conduct.  Coomes is charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Disorderly Conduct.
