MADISON, Conn. (WTNH) — A series of large improvements are underway at Connecticut’s most popular beach, Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison.

On Friday, Governor Dannel Malloy will attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the start of the new improvements. After some damage from severe winter storms, the park is getting a brand new nature center as well as some new beach facilities.

Hammonasset is Connecticut’s busiest state park, according to officials with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Approximately two million people visit Hammonasset Beach State Park every year.
